These Crack Green Beans are the ultimate easy holiday side dish. Fresh green beans are blanched, then roasted with crispy bacon and a savory-sweet brown sugar butter glaze. They are addictive, crowd-pleasing, and ready in under an hour.
2 lbs (900g) Fresh green beans, trimmed and washed
8–10 slices Bacon, chopped
1/2 cup (115g) Unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup (100g) Brown sugar, packed
1 tbsp Soy sauce (or Tamari)
1 tsp Garlic powder
1/2 tsp Onion powder
Salt and Black Pepper to taste
Optional: 1/4 cup Sliced almonds
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Blanch green beans for 3-5 minutes. Drain and transfer to ice water. Drain again and pat dry.
3. Cook chopped bacon in a skillet until crispy. Remove to paper towels. Reserve 1 tbsp bacon grease (optional).
4. Whisk melted butter, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and reserved bacon grease in a small bowl.
5. Place beans in the baking dish. Pour sauce over beans and toss to coat. Top with crispy bacon.
6. Bake for 30-40 minutes, tossing halfway through, until sauce is bubbly and caramelized.
7. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
Storage: Keep leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Make-Ahead: Blanch beans and mix sauce a day ahead. Combine and bake before serving.
